Dari language information
Dari is the official name given to the Persian languages spoken in Afghanistan. It is also known as ‘Afghan Persian’. There are over 9 million native speakers of the Dari language which makes up around 60% of the population in Afghanistan. The language is classified under the Iranian part of the Indo-Iranian language family and is used in government, radio and print media and serves as the lingua franca of Afghanistan. Dari is often referred to as a dialect of Farsi which causes debate among linguists especially in the Middle East who argue that Dari is essentially the same as Farsi and refer to Afghan Persian simply as Farsi.
